3 Fun & Free Self Care Activities

As so many people are excited for the “new year, new me” that almost always happens during the New Year, for some of us it is just not as bright and joyful. Some of us are dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, doubt, fear, struggling to face the unknown or even get out of bed. We need to get back in touch with things that bring us joy, like silly child unbridled joy and laughter. While self-care is NOT a replacement for professional therapy – that is also amazing and needs to be normalized, seeing a therapist is healthy and does not make you weak or needy.
Self-care is a vital part of life that needs to happen and be a priority. I have a few things I love and are free and fun.

1. Coloring Books:
You don’t have to get “adult” coloring books, I personally find those stressful, I mess up the pattern and I can’t even finish the page. Grab a children’s’ coloring book, your fav cartoon, animated movie, animals, nature, fire trucks, etc… If you pick it then it is an adult coloring book now 🙂
If you aren’t into actual crayons or markers there are amazing free phone apps to use for free, then you can save your finished masterpiece and share it on facebook or print for yourself to enjoy.

mobile apps: Teazel Coloring, Tap Color

2. Guided Meditations:
I need to be led through meditations otherwise my mind wanders worse. These guys are my fav for anything from sleep talk downs on trains, spaceships, Lord of the Rings Adventures, and other talk downs like reducing anxiety, anger, pain, fear, increase prosperity, etc…

3. Move Your Body:
Moving your body at least 20 minutes a day does so many healthy things. Do you have a dog, walk your dog on a long walk, if you have been cooped up inside they would appreciate sniffing and checking out new sights with you. Go down every aisle of your pet store with them. Walk with the sun on your face, a nice breeze, or treadmill, just move your butt.
My fav is a seated chair yoga routine because I am slowly working my way up to be more flexible and build stamina.
